Photo Competition
Mr Frog,
Jessie had the idea yesterday about you introducing an Underwater Photo Competition to the members of Frog Squad. I thought about it a little more..I think this would be a really good idea. It may promote the Digital Photography Course, it will also help those who do this improve their bouyancy. For those who do not take photo's underwater or even for those who do not dive, the pictures we take may introduce a whole new world and encourage more people to take up the sport...and of course you could show pictures on the web site when talking about all the places Frog Squad go.
Do you think this is something that could be expanded upon and organised?

Hi Val (and Jessie)
Absolutely brilliant idea and with Egypt coming up next month (great photo opportunities) - even better!
I'll put something together for the Frog News page and plan the prize etc

Re: Photo Competition
Didn't want to make it exclusive tho those that are fortunate enough to be going to Egypt. There are a number of Frogs who have recently bought or already own Camera's that will be coming to Cape, the Farnes, St. Abbs etc, and as we know, photographic conditions are different in cold water than they are in warm...unless you are planning on having different categories eg: marine life, still life, wreck etc...
and don't forget to tell everyone that I won the £100 PADI prize after doing my photography course!!!

it's nice to Know that someone is thinking about the less fortunate ones who are not going to egypt, thank you
val.
but the one that wins it will be from the red sea hoilday on the pure fact that when only the divers from the club go diving not like THE SUB-ZERO BOYS THE DARKER AND COLDER THE BETTER

Hi Ady dive wuss..
You lot will not be able to take photo's anyway for the simple reason is that there is nowhere spare on your bodies to attach a lanyard for a camera since you all are overloaded with torches, reels, smb's, make up bags, 4 pack of John Smiths (or lager if you are a wufter boy), extra computers, spare masks and a spare drysuit that has folded down to the size of a postage stamp and can can be activated at the touch of a button..not forgetting the 2 tonnes of extra cylinders you need for all that air you all guzzle..and of course the additional ponies for the deco time you will rack up when you have been under for 3 weeks. I am sure you are all so busy scraping along the bottom with your computer's trawling through the mud trying to get that extra bit of depth recorded that you miss anything photgenic anyway. There is nowt photgenic about the site of scuba man in his spandex undersuit either...does Jessie take his blonde wig in with him..he might need that as extra warmth under his hood since you lot all dive in sub zero temperatures?

photo competition
well what can i say all very good points but still my point stands, know one from the club dives in the uk why not ? why only on holiday where it warm and can see 20 meters in front of them, which is nice but you still need to able to take your 17 torches off and your extra 12s and use them
in the abyss when sending up your smb what real divers are made of who dive in the uk .
so good luck with your competition and wish i was with you cos the £30 voucher sounds really exciting and i cant wait to see the lovely pictures
from the red sea.

Re: Photo Competition
Adie do not fear .... pictures from the Abyss are perfectly acceptable and I'm sure that you may be able to phtograph some (as yet undiscivered) species fromn the depths. Those strange creatures that simply resemble a pair of false teeth with a spikey tail and breath toxic emmissions from underwater volcanic eruptions. Apparently there is something that looks like a blonde wig which swims in puddles and has a fetish for the hydrobox at Stoney ... or am I getting confused with someone else?
Speaking of blonde wigs ... Ms Blouse apparently now has issues with his/her Plasma TV and believes that she (or is that he?) can watch movies (Trinnies 'What Not To Wear' and other fashion accessory programmes about handbags etc) underwater whilst pretending to be James Bond and attacking mainline gas pipes - Now that would make an interesting picture!
Vodka Val makes some very accurate observations and I'm sure will be helping Jessie choose a couple of lovely new blouses for nightime wear in Egypt.
Although a fascinating underwater shot of the anchor chain or blow off preventor at Stoney may not necessarily have the making of a winning entry ... the pictures do not have to originate from the coral laden luxuries of the Asian continent or Great Barrier Reef. Next time you visit Capernwray, just have a look at their photo album in the shop and you'll see what I mean. Competition entries can be from anywhere (even a try dive in the pool - although that mat be pushing it slightly). The Farne Islands, Lightship at Bridlington, St Abbs etc ... are all equally valid and might just be the winner. We've all seen blured pictures of Nemo the Clown fish, time and time again - so the winning entry is likely to be something out of the ordinary. As such, the winner could quite easily be a shot taken in the UK or elsewhere.
Who knows ... if we really can't decide which is the overall winner, we might have to have several categories and prizes!
Good luck Adie and lets have a great action grabbing shot of Jessie looking for his 'o' ring (it probably got caught in the wig)

Re: Photo Competition
O purleeeez...why does everything have to turn into some sort of macho competition?
Why does no-one from the club dive in the UK?.well I don't think that comment is entirely fair.
Sure, we all prefer to dive in the nice warm climate of the red sea where we can wear a semi dry and the viz is excellent..but there a plenty of us who dive in the UK.
Not everone is as obsessed as the little "clique" that counts you, scubaman and the Jessie in it's members. I do not want to spend every spare minute I have in search of some muddy puddle and torturing myself in sub zero temperatures just to test out the latest piece of kit or fancy gadget I have just bought
Not everyone is fortunate enough to own a dry suit or have the financial resources needed to dive all year round in this country. People have other commitments too..or maybe..just maybe...anyone new to the club wanting to dive might be a little afraid to approach you bunch of manly men for fear of feeling inferior against you lot...or maybe anyone wanting to dive might just be waiting for the organised trips were there will be a bunch of us going and there is more chance of them finding a buddy that they will feel confident with.
I don't know why people don't dive all year round..and I don't particularly care..I just feel that as a club, and in particular you lot as more experienced divers should be encouraging people to dive more rather than making comments that in my oinion are more likely to put someone off diving.
